Welcome to my personal page. Where I post random things of interest. Some subject matter may be controversial or may get outdated over time. Nonetheless, each post will serve as a time capsule of thoughts and ideas of the moment.

I was born in the small city of Koronadal, Philippines – locally known as Marbel. I had fond memories growing up across the street from the public hospital where for fun we would crowd the emergency room entrance to see the latest gore. On most days, my dad and I would visit our rice farm to enjoy the crisp peaceful breeze.

When I was 10 years old, my parents hit the reset button in search of better opportunities. We moved to the suburbs of Downers Grove, Illinois just outside of Chicago. For years, we struggled (and had fun) living with 7 family members in a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. Looking back, it was damn crazy that I slept at the front door entrance for years. One would literally have to step over me to get in and out of the house. Working two full-time jobs, my mom was able to save enough money to buy a modest house when I was in high school.

I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to attend The University of Iowa. I did my fair share of partying, but I mostly studied late into the evenings. I was also in a work-study program in Dr. Jeff Murray’s lab doing cleft lip and palate genetic research in the Philippines.

After a few years of living and working at The University of Chicago, I moved to New York City in 2010 where I currently work in the genomics automation sphere. Brooklyn is home and for the first time, I feel that I belong. The diversity, creativity, energy, culture, talent, and history of NYC is captivating.

My wife Lauren, our cats, and I are happily building roots. As much as possible, we live to travel.
